About
S Woodworks of Hatteras Island (SWOHI) began incredibly modestly, with me building small household items such as benches, coffee tables, etc. for my own home. My wife decided she needed a live edge charcuterie board. A large, live edge charcuterie board. She searched for her desired board but was unable to find one that was to her liking, so she asked me to craft one for her. (Thanks, dear. Good stuff).
I had just completed a farmhouse style picnic table so of course the natural progression would be to craft a live edge charcuterie board. (Absolute sarcasm there, if you didn't catch it). Now, living with the ethos, "Happy wife, Happy life," I went to work.
After going through plenty of wood and enduring many a learning curve, I crafted a Black Walnut Charcuterie Board (I capitalized because it came out nice), that my wife enjoys to this day.
What I did not anticipate was how much I would appreciate the look and feel of black walnut when finished properly. I began working with other hardwoods and cedars. I was hooked.
Once the oil hits the grain, it's all smiles. I began making boards, giving them out as gifts. A friend of a friend saw a board and asked if I had any to sell. Then someone else. Then someone else. A friend who is a real estate agent purchased charcuterie boards as gifts for her clients. The boards went over big, and so here we are today.
It's said that if you enjoy what you do, you will not work a day in your life. I enjoy making boards, but I absolutely work. And I work hard! I would not have it any other way. I am Blessed, lucky and everything in between to be able to do this.
I ventured into different products, such as this snack board above or the over-sized custom-ordered charcuterie board below.
I find these products make great housewarming gifts, birthday gifts, gifts for clients, Valentine's Day gifts... basically any time a gift is needed, you can find something here. The beverage board below was a custom-ordered birthday gift.
None of my boards or builds are mass produced. I do not use templates, therefore, no two boards are alike. Visit FAQ's for questions regarding custom boards, as well as custom tables.
Thanks for visiting S Woodworks Of Hatteras Island. I certainly hope you found it worth your time. Talk to you later. I'm off to make something cool.
Enjoy!!!!
