Care For Your Board

Preventative care is simple, quick and can extend the life of your board. Here are some general pointers...

  • Wash your board(s) with soap and warm water after every use.
  • Dry your board after washing.
  • Do not let your board sit in water.
  • Oil your board routinely. How often you oil your boards depends on how often you use them. I oil daily used boards every 4-6 weeks.
  • I use a combination of food grade mineral oil and beeswax for conditioning. There are plenty on the market (or use the complimentary house mix that comes with your order). You can also purchase additional cans through the website.
  • Not conditioning your board regularly can lead to the wood drying and possibly splitting and/or warping. Humidity, as well as allowing boards to be exposed to moisture too long, can increase the likelihood of of your board warping or even cracking.
  • Spread the finish on your board, allowing enough time for the oil to soak into the board (I generally leave it overnight). Buff or wipe off the excess. I then let the board sit for a couple of days before using again. Five different people may give you different thoughts on maintenance. This is what works for me.
